Wheel hub unit types and applications
HDB is the world’s famous producer of wheel unit, including wheel bearings for virtually every car and truck on the planet. Today, every other car on the highways is equipped with HDB bearings. Over 3 million units were supplied in 2016, one third of which had integrated electronics for ABS.
Electronics will continue to play an increasing part in wheel technology, as a vast array of control technologies use information from sensors incorporated into wheel bearings. HDB pioneered the wheel hub unit back in the 1990s when it designed the unit used on the revolutionary Traction Avant front-wheel drive sedan introduced by Citroen.
More recently, HDB developed wheel hub units that incorporate sensors to feed information to anti-lock braking systems, traction control systems, and even to facilitate tire pressure monitoring systems. HDB continues its role as a development partner with automakers, pioneering new control technology with several prototype vehicles incorporating brake, steer, and shift by-wire systems. Additionally, HDB supports the automotive aftermarket with state-of-the-art wheel bearings and seals, like item 42450-0C020, which is a wheel hub unit used in Toyota SEQUOIA car.
